- I joined the staff of the University of St Andrews in 2005 after spending 14 years at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
- Prior to working at the University of Alaska I was a PhD student studying models of waterfowl survival at Colorado State University under the supervision of David R Anderson.
- Prior to pursuing my PhD, I was a research assistant at Oregon State University, Hatfield Marine Science Center.
- I studied for my masters degree at Utah State University studying ecological modelling under George S Innis.
- I earned a bachelors degree in computer science from Luther College.
